Among the curiosities to be found in the Epsom Derby are betting on horses. As in any race, horses are very favorites as the representative of the actual colors, Carlton House, which we have discussed in another entry in this blog, and there are the horses on which one (or hardly anyone) would give the slightest possibility of victory in the Derby, if you stick to your current quote on the bid winner.

These are the contributions of the most famous bookmakers to 31May11:

It is clear that Carlton House stands out among the favorites as the highest contribution is 2 to 1 and stays there from many days ago but our attention will focus on the horse that most participants paid between Derby that will be the track next Saturday 04 June. That horse is called Castlemorris King.

Normally the horses participating in any Derby in any country are horses that have excelled over rivals generation and which have also proved their ability at distances of breath, but it is also true that in some cases, it is run Horses have (in principle) no chance of victory but due to the enthusiasm of its owners, participate in the race to see their colors in the great test. We believe that this is the case Castlemorris King.

So look at the quote box, bet on this horse is paying 500 to 1 in almost all gambling and, in one of these, 750 to 1, which is not bad.

The racing history of this colt is as follows:

4 of his 5 races went to their two years and the last classical age, the last day May 2, which can be considered the best of his life.

He debuted with a quote of 100 to 1 and is the tenth of 12, still with a 150 to 1 to be the fifth of 6 and so forth, always with very bad results.

The last of his races, is reflected in the image on the right where you can see the conditions of the race: it is a handicap for 3 year degree 6, run in Warwick, where the prize for the winner was of 2.388 £ 2,184 m distance. and the winner's time

2'21''43
on grass and field good.

This time is very bad, for a comparison with the Spanish turf, we have found the race National Heritage No. 193, Part 2 handicap over 2.100 meters., In that race the 3 years Gominola won with a time of 2'16''87

grass and field good
.

It is clear that the race brought together low-quality horses in which our hero could only come in fifth place which clearly marks the value of the horse. The race can be viewed at the following link:

This poor value has generated much comment in the UK on this horse that has been regarded as probably the worst there has ever been involved in the Epsom Derby, although his jockey Mark Coumbe can make the dream of every jockey world when it comes to the track with his horse but the bid winner will pay 500 to 1.
Coumbe said: "I am aware that Castlemorris King will be considered as an obstacle but as a contender but his owner, Mr. O'Connell has paid 6.900 pounds to cover the fees. He had the dream of having a runner on the race and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it. "

It is virtually impossible for King Castlemorris Deby Epsom end of the one of the paid positions and is more than likely that the horse cost him keep pace with its rivals, especially the terrain of this difficult track, but what if is clear is that this horse will keep alive the illusion of their owners, friends, trainer and jockey and that of its more than daring bettors who retain their betting slips in hand until the last of the contenders reach the finish line on Saturday at Epsom. It is certain that this horse can not win but there is always that little doubt that feeds the uncertainty of a result in this wonderful sport-spectacle that rises from their seats to millions of fans around the world and, in this race, no doubt paralyze the UK, as it has done since 1.779
