El caballo Slip Anchor de 29 años de edad, ganador del Derby de Epsom de 1.985, ha sido sacrificado en la "Plantation Stud" de Newmarket, donde estaba estabulado.
La victoria de Slip Anchor en el Derby de Epsom fue muy holgada. Montado por Steve Cauthen salió en primera posición en la que fue ganando cuerpos de ventaja sobre el resto de participantes, ventaja que era escandalosa al llegar a la famosa curva final, tattenham Corner; luego Steve se limitó a conservar la distancia y a llegar a la meta con 7 cuerpos de distancia sobre el segundo clasificado.

La anécdota de ese día fue que su jockey, Steve Cauthen, pasó a ser el primero de la historia capaz de ganar el Derby de Kentucky (que consiguió a lomos de Affirmed en 1.978) y el Derby de Epsom. Al día de hoy sigue siendo el único jockey en conseguirlo.

Slip Anchor's victory in the Epsom Derby was very loose. Ridden by Steve Cauthen came in first position in which bodies gained advantage over the other participants, an advantage that was scandalous to reach the famous final curve, Tattenham Corner, then Steve was limited to preserve the distance and reach the goal with 7 lengths apart on the runner.
